Deer tick populations are continuing to increase. The deer tick has a life cycle of 2 years, living in leaf litter; rock walls; wooded areas and tall grass and other shady/moist areas. Ticks are active from spring to fall. Host seeking ticks wait on vegetation near the ground for a mammal or bird to approach. The tick will then latch on to the host and feed for 4-5 days. If previously infected the tick may transmit the Lyme disease to its host.
